1942 was the year the 90th Bomb Group was created. Look close at the patch. Under the skull are "crossed bombs" instead of the crossed bones that the pirates had. The patch with the 5 is the 5th Airforce patch. The other patch you describe Sounds like the 8th Airforce Patch. Do the Wings look like they come out of the number 8? Go to this link:

See if the patch you describe is there. Did your dad continue in the military? The 90th BG only lasted from 1942-1945. If he continued in the Airforce he may have gone to the 8th Airforce after his tour with the 90th in the 5th Airforce.

The red patch that my dad has does say 1942 for the 320th? I know about the skull and crossbones being created but the other patches on his wall do not include an azure patch...He has a circular blue ... more
