I am a new member of the revived forum. I was a member many years ago and lost contact with the group. My father, William A. Scroggins, was a member of the 400th Bomb Squadron from formation until the end of the war, when he went home from Ie Shima. He was originally an aerial gunner in Lieutenant Hatfield's crew until that crew was broken up sometime in 1943 (Lt. Hatfield was promoted to Captain and became the Squadron Operations Officer). He was then a relief gunner filling in for different crews who needed a fill in gunner. He later was transferred to the Armament section, where he finished the war. My Dad was active in the reunion association for many years. He passed away in July 2000 in Texas City, Texas.
