I am a Police officer presently stationed at Iron Range - Lockhart River. I will be here for 2 years. I have completed 7 mths of this posting.

I would like to ask anyone that is interested in sending photos, information, emails, pictures, photocopies, anything or everything etc to me in regards to Iron Range it would be greatly apprieciated.

I have and am still walking the hills of the old camps, airstrips and areas the US and aussie vets worked and lived over 60years age. The area is severely overgrown and very time consuming. It is also very difficult to locate much of what was.

Dont hesitate to notify me if you wish, via email.

As stated in a previous posting I will also be aiming at placing a memorial at Iron Range for all the squadrons, units etc that were here. Can anyone help with this?

The footings for the Memorial Wall are in place with construction of the Memorial Wall already started. Various plaques, flagpoles and flags have also been obtained. The US Embassy in Canberra have also donated a US Flag. The support is overwhelming. This will be a fairly big event, expected in early 2005, around April.

The more information I am able to obtain, the more detailed and accurate the information is handed out. The aboriginal youth here at Lockhart are also interested in this era, and I have also found out the local library is in need of this information as it is very lacking.

At present the Iron Range/Lockhart River library has nothing at all in regards to the WW2 events that took place here many years ago.

It is paramount the local aboriginals are well informed of their area, for history and knowledge.

There is also a legend story here, that the aboriginals believe there is large area, possibly in a mountain/cave/or large dugout area with 2 steel doors containing alot of american equipment. Can anyone remember this?? at Iron Range or is it a myth, or was it buried over by tons of dirt??? To date, nothing of this nature has ever been found. Is this true??

I would be willing to do up and information booklet for the Lockhart youth/community, if you are able to provide any information on Iron Range.

Pleas email me, if you may be of nay assistance. Email ;
ironrange189@hotmail.com

If you have any personel experiences of Iron Range, or family members attended to Iron Range, any information would assist with our endevours. We need you help.

Regards to all, and please dont hesitate to email.
