Jim,
My Father George C. Porter was the top turrett gunner on the Leaford Bearskin crew 321st. My father died in 1984. In doing research about my dad, we were able to make friends with many wonderful members of the group. One of the most instrumental people in our research is Wiley O. Woods who was the group historian and authored the book, Legacy of the 90th Bombardment Group -"The Jolly Rogers" While researching dad, we (my son Jason and I)got interested in the group as a whole. We attended our first 90th Bomb Group reunion in 2000 in Las Vegas. There we met Wiley in person as well as Leaford Bearskin and many other wonderful people. The history of the group became a labor of love for us and when Wiley retired as the group historian, he asked that Jason be allowed to take his place. Jason was appointed Group Historian at the National Reunion in Newport Beach, California in 2003. Together we work to compile history and information about the group. We share with others what others share with us. It is really exciting when we can provide information, photos and/or get crew members or thier families in contact with each other. Wiley has set up an archive at the University of Memphis where he has documents and memorabelia and all the information he obtained for his book. We have a copy of his index and frequently we give people the numbers they need to get the information that is at the University. We hosted a mini reunion in Boise, ID in May of 2004.
The members of the 90th Bomb Group that we have met are dear to our hearts. Wiley Woods continues to be an invaluable resource as well as a very dear friend.
